Morris Plains, NJ, 13.07.2005. With its
LSM 5 LIVE Laser Scanning Microscope, Carl Zeiss Microscopy is once
again one of the winners of the much-coveted R&D 100 Award.
Featuring a new optical design specially developed for real time
examinations of fast processes on living specimens, the LSM 5 LIVE opens
a new time window in confocal fluorescence microscopy. With a monthly
circulation of 90,000 copies, the US R&D Magazine presents this
award to the 100 most important technical products launched worldwide
every year.
Thanks to its unique combination of scanning speed, image quality and
sensitivity, the confocal LSM 5 LIVE Live Cell Imaging System from the
successful LSM 5 family from Carl Zeiss provides scientists with
exclusive insights behind the scenes of cellular motion and interaction.
Collecting up to 120 confocal images per second at a resolution of 512 x
512 pixels , the LSM 5 LIVE scans about 20 times faster than any other
confocal system so far, while featuring outstanding image quality and
exceptional sensitivity. The entire optical concept has been
consistently tailored to biomedical applications. With its precise
optics, creative beam splitter design and innovative beam delivery, the
LSM 5 LIVE opens up new horizons in life sciences with fluorescence
yield at the limits of what is technically possible.
With the new instrument technology for fluorescence microscopy, Carl
Zeiss is underscoring its global claim to technological leadership in
the field of high end microscope systems for biomedical research and
clinical laboratories. Dr. Norbert Gorny, Member of the Executive Board
of Carl Zeiss AG, sees the award as confirmation of Carl Zeiss'
innovation strategy. "The fact that we have once again won this
award proves that we are on the right track to achieving a constant
expansion of Carl Zeiss' competency in the field of future-oriented
microscopes." Dr. Ulrich Simon, Vice President and General Manager
in the Microscopy Group, explains the Carl Zeiss microscopy strategy as
follows: "Our goal is to combine technological and subject-related
know-how in order to create solutions that are optimally tailored to the
needs of modern biomedical research. The mission of the Carl Zeiss
Microscopy Group is to provide our customers with tools that enable them
to perform their tasks more quickly, efficiently and successfully. This
is precisely why we are investing heavily in new technologies and
production capacities."
After the ApoTome technique for fluorescence microscopy , the LSM 510
META Laser Scanning Microscope and the PlasDIC microscope contrasting
technique, the LSM 5 LIVE is now the fourth consecutive product of the
Microscopy Group, and the 13th overall, to win the R&D 100 Award for
the Carl Zeiss Group. The award will be presented in Chicago on October
20, 2005.
